The Waitress: The Waitress in context
As I wanted to make this as believable as possible for ISTD I decided to put the text into context in the form of an IPad app as this gives me a good basis to back up my ideas. As the IPad has a variety of functions similar to the IPhone and knowing that the functionality on that has inspired people to create some great apps the IPad would just give me this on a larger scale.

The Waitress: How it works
PDF of how the book would look when you opened it up. Refining the size of the text.
I thought that the book would have to start off in a relatively uniform format. I did play with the idea of having the various sections of each page in different positions but then it takes an element away from the interactivity of the text if it is already in a pre existing layout. The idea is for the user to be in control of how they read the story.

The Waitress: Developing the layout
Compare the rules to websites such as arthur and skippers. Letting the user interact with the images as they want laying them out in a set boundary, depending on what constraints the creator put on them.
1 column layouts
Various different places pull quotes situated
Splitting the text into various sections 2 3 4 and 5-
went for splitting the page into three because then there is a relatively even distribution and spacing for the text to be movable in. Any more than 2 and the section becomes cluttered and harder to figure out how the story reads. Although I want an element of interactivity I didn't want the text to be un-readable.

The Waitress brief overview
The Waitress: ideas
As I didnt think that anything that I had come up with or proposed was working for me I had another look at the brief and highlighted the key areas that ISTD suggested that I could look at. I looked into each of the various elements suggested and started to generate some rough ideas of what it was I wanted to do
What I want to do:
- Make the user interact with the text
- Possibility of using various medias

The waitress format ideas
Just a few ideas for the format for The Waitress text. Reviewing where I am at, at this point in time for the brief I feel that I need to look at the text and dissect it more if I want to get more out of it to develop an idea to its full potential.

ISTD Brainstorm
A quick brainstorm of some ideas for the ISTD brief that is based around the text 'The Waitress'. Reading through the text I had various ideas that I am going to experiment with. I want to use this brief to focus mainly on manipulating type and experimenting with layout also incorporate potentially a unique/unusual format.
