The Barman: Packaging unassembled

Having printed the packaging I took a short period of time to reflect on how the prints turned out. When I printed the packaging it was harder than I expected to produce a vibrant colour due to the stock being black which causes the finish to become duller. As well as black stock I printed a couple on white card which turned out better than I expected.

I did try pulling the ink across the screen 2/3 times more than usual which again caused the image that was printed miss-align causing a blur/ outer glow affect.

Another problem I found when screen printing was that it was rather difficult lining everything up in the right position which caused some parts of the print to be miss aligned.

I am planning to make up both a white and black package to see what they look like when they are fully assembled.

The Barman website

Just re-evaluating how the website works and looks. I have produced the template for the website so all I need to do is drop in the images of the gift pack and the app in use. The website is the order point for the gift pack.

Final Web Template

Icon/ logo redesign

I thought that it would be more relevant to have a simpler logo which ca be used across a range of medias and formats. I have just taken the image of the cocktail glass and simplified it.

Final logo.

Packaging mock up with design

Quick mock up of the packing with the design in black and white to see how it looks on the box. Just for easy I have scaled it down to 65% to save me time. Due to screen printing being busy for the rest of this week I am printing on the monday, this will be one of the last things that I will have to do + photograph it for the website.

It is good to see the design in the format, I am happy with it. There were a couple of problems  with the packaging I need to make sure the the top and bottom flaps interlink so that the whole net fits together.

Barman gift pack design ideas

Going with a similar theme as the app and colour scheme, the idea is to screen print the packaging so that I can get the colours as close to the on screen colours as I can. I am going to be printing on black card which will make it easy and more efficient to print it.Packaging Net Mockups

The barman gift pack packaging

With the change in direction to the project, now I am aiming the app at people hosting cocktail parties I am going to include a cocktail gift pack. The gift pack is a set of Barman products that are used at the cocktail events which create the basis for most of the cocktails on the app.
The gift pack includes:
-  Shaker
-  16oz glass
-  Cocktail spoon
-  Strainer
-  Spirits pourer
-  Cocktail measure

Could include QR code on the packaging so the users are directed to the website/app store.

Trying to be as economical as possible, looking at a way in which I have to use limited guy/ none at all to attach the box together.
The original box size, the measurements were wrong due to me measuring the bottom of the shaker as apposed to the top half which is larger.

This picture is of the box and the contents of the gift pack. The next stage is to come up with a suitable design for the net which people can identify with the app and website. As I want to keep with the same colours to the app producing these colours will be pretty much impossible in digital print, with the only real option is to screen print the two colours in order to get the florescent colour. This would mean I could print onto a black or darker stock which would potentially bring out the florescent colour.

The barman website development

Rough schematics of how the website would work, the various pages that need to be created in order for the user to get maximum exposure to the barman products. I want to go with a similar theme, and colour scheme to the app to tie both elements together in an identity.

Symbol brainstorm

Just a quick brainstorm of ideas for the symbols and what I need to think about including for the app content. Each symbol/sign needs to relate to the object and be distinguishable from one another but work together in the same visual style.

Items that need visualising:
__Garnishes
__Glasses
__Spirits
__Mixers
__Bar equipment

I also need to think about the various techniques that are employed to create cocktails.
__Shaking
__Muddling
__Pouring
__Straining
__Throwing

Potential content style

When I was developing ideas for the icons I started to look at various random shapes. I thought this could be an interesting way of categorising the different ingredients, glasses, garnishes and spirits within the app interface.

The areas of influence that I want to look at for various signs, symbols and characters are:
-   Japanese and Chinese languages
-   Pictograms, signs and symbols
-   Scandinavian special characters
-   Cyrillic letterforms

Researching these could form a good basis for generating and experimenting with visualising the content for the app. It might open up avenues for various ways the app could look as I am stuck on the layout and how the menus could look menus at this moment in time.

More app icon development

Using a couple of ideas from last time that I was generating ideas for the app icon I have had a small break from the project so this allowed me to get a fresh look on the direction. Adding the glass affect puts the icons more into context, allow me to gauge what they would look like if dropped onto an IPone or IPad image.

The Barman: Logotype/ App name / Loading screen idea

Logotype/ App name / Loading screen ideas. Undecided what this quite is yet but it just sprouted out of the menu ideas so I thought I would roll with it. Again it works better than just the single colour.

The Barman: Menu Ideas

A few ideas for the start up menu, I have looked at various colours and using them in conjunction with each other. The use of more than one colour works better than just a single colour, it gives greater emphasis on the text which is what I want. From experimenting with the different colours I am also going to go back and look at the logotype.

The Barman: Glass Visual Ideas

Just from where I started and the direction I am heading in with the visuals. I want to keep the black background with the neon colours a feature of the app.

Open publication - Free publishing - More brief 1

Playing around with the scale and adding a gradient to the background. It was also brought to my attention that more detail need to be applied to the stand of the glass just to make it clear what it is and to try and get that three dimension aesthetic. I am going to experiment with the colours for the glasses as they clash with what could potentially be the colours for the different cocktails.
